Chicago Eats: Kanela Breakfast Club

We’re big on brunch over here. If you’re looking for a cute spot with bomb food made with locally grown ingredients and even better mimosa deals, then Kanela [Kuh-nel-uh] is where it’s at. The restaurant has five locations: Wicker Park, Lakeview, Old Town, Streeterville, and Andersonville being the newest one. Pitchfork Highlights + Fashion

Now that we are fully recovered from Pitchfork (not as young as we thought we were) we can talk about how lit that bitch was! When going to a festival you have to have a game plan as to how you’re going to successfully see your favorite artists. I have to admit it was very difficult and we couldn’t get to some of the acts that we hoped for in time, like Digable Planets *cries.* All in all this was an amazing weekend! Pitchfork Music Festival Has Arrived!

Chicago hands down is the Mecca for summer music festivals. There’s always some kind of major event happening every weekend. From world renown festivals like Lollapalooza to the neighborhood street fests, SummerTimeChi is the lit place to be. This weekend Chicago hosts Pitchfork Music Festival starting today, July 15th, going through Sunday July 17th, and The Around The Way will be there providing ya’ll with coverage! Millennium Park Summer Music Series: Femi Kuti and the Positive Force

Yesterday was a “very Black” day for Chicago. Not only were streets getting shut down for the Black Lives Matter protest, but also to see the Nigerian son of afrobeat music (combo of African music, funk, and jazz) Femi Kuti. For those of you that don’t know much about Femi, he is the eldest son of the legendary activist and pioneer of afrobeat Fela Kuti, and the grandchild of women’s rights activist Funmilayo Ransome Kuti. So what better day to have Femi and the Positive Force play at Millennium Park, right? Chicago seemed to agree. Continue reading
