Yesterday was a “very Black” day for Chicago. Not only were streets getting shut down for the Black Lives Matter protest, but also to see the Nigerian son of afrobeat music (combo of African music, funk, and jazz) Femi Kuti. For those of you that don’t know much about Femi, he is the eldest son of the legendary activist and pioneer of afrobeat Fela Kuti, and the grandchild of women’s rights activist Funmilayo Ransome Kuti. So what better day to have Femi and the Positive Force play at Millennium Park, right? Chicago seemed to agree.
The Millennium Park Music Series is a lineup of free outdoor concerts every Monday and Thursday. Shows will be playing throughout the summer until August 25, 2016. Click here for more info.
