With summer officially over and fall breezing past us, transitioning from our summer to winter wardrobe can become quite difficult in Chicago and the rest of the Midwest. Although we may not be ready to give up our crop tops and high-waisted shorts just yet, the sad reality is that we just had our first snowfall on Halloween–we gotta dress a bit warmer! In the words of House Stark from Game of Thrones, “Winter is coming…” and we want to be prepared…and dressed cute! Here are our five staples for winter that you can mix and match all season long without breaking the piggy bank!
1.The High Rise Midi Skater skirt: ASOS $37.90 Pair it with your favorite sweater and booties for a night out with your girls or a casual date. We like the idea of getting a neutral color in this midi skirt, that way you can go neutral or bold with the top. The length is great for for the office as well and transitions perfectly from day to night! 2. The Sweater Dress: Forever 21 $17.80 So simple, yet so versatile. Add some cool patterned tights and a bright scarf to make this sweater dress really pop. If you’re running errands add some leggings, over-the-knee boots and a beanie for a more low-key look. 3. Over-Sized Sweater: Nasty Gal $78 The description of this sweater says it best, “We like our sweaters like we like our boos– sexy, warm, and not clingy.” This is not your grandma’s sweater, it will turn heads. It is sexy yet simple. We like the leather leggings with the sweater or opt for some black jeans and platforms. 4. The Plaid Button Down: Urban Outfitters $59 Wear it with leggings, jeans, tied around your waist, with a skirt or a dress. The button down plaid shirt is a must have for us Midwest squirrels. We will wear this good thing out until it fades into summer. It’s perfect for a lazy Sunday or a night out on Saturday. Chances are you already have multiple plaid button downs in various colors. 5. Black Over-the-Knee boots: AKIRA $89.90 We couldn’t make this list and not include something from our old stomping grounds. We prefer the AKIRA shoe stores over the clothing stores, and this boot is a steal for the price. Perfect for work, running around or a night out. It is easy to wear with jeans, a skirt or leggings. The platform can be dangerous in the winter with the beautifully iced sidewalks of Chicago, so do be careful!
